Lucy Properties have commissioned Original Field of Architecture (OFA) to investigate the design potential of the refurbishment and extension to flats 1-23 (phase 1) Castle Mill House, Juxon Street, Oxford, culminating in the submission of a Planning Application in Feb 2010. The primary motive for the project is to improve the overall aesthetic presentation and thermal performance of the 40 year old block of apartments.
Proposal The project includes; refurbishment and extension to the existing block of 23 flats at Castle Mill House to provide 4 additional flats (1x3, 2x2, 1x1 bed) by extension at roof level, replacement of all windows and addition of external balconies to flats 6 to 23, provision of a new access ramp and cycle store (covered) alongside and above existing vehicle ramp to basement.
Design Principles
The proposed design for Castle Mill House, aims to give the existing building a modern face-lift by adding decorative balcony elements to the existing façades and 4 penthouse pavilions to the rooftop. The proposal also includes the refurbishment of the existing 23 flats to improve the levels of thermal performance, modernise services and add private amenity.
